How many times have I repeated Philippians 4:6-7 as a balm for the anxious mind but overlooked the verse immediately following it. Verse 8 says, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right… whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable. If anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things!

Whenever one thing is emptied out, another must fill its place. If I disavow one leader, I must decide to follow another; if I rid my mind of worry, I must fill it with truth. Otherwise, what was discarded will enter back in and what I thought I had tossed behind will find its way back. The choice will be made for me, if I don’t choose for myself.
